Murray Valley Championship Honour Board

20 January 2025

The Murray Valley Championship was a prestigious golf event held in Mildura, last played in 2014. Although it is not strictly a Riverside Golf event, we currently have the trophy, so I thought it would be useful to add it to our online Honour Board. It was played over 72 holes, it was 36 holes on Tuesday at Mildura and another 36 holes on Thursday at Riverside, The event was won by many talented golfers, and I have compiled a list of some of those I know about. Apologies if I missed anyone.

Kevin Hartley won it eight times. He was the 1958 Australian Amateur champion and a member of a winning Eisenhower Cup team. He also won the 1969 Victorian Amateur Championship 12 & 10. Doug Bachli was the Victorian Amateur champion in 1949 and 1950 and the Australian Amateur champion in 1962. Bill Britten, a one-time member of Riverside, was the 1996 Australian Amateur champion. Ken Kilburn was twice runner-up in the Victorian Amateur Championship. Bradley Hughes won the Victorian Amateur Championship in 1987 and 1988 and had an extensive professional career. Marcus Fraser was the 1999 Victorian Amateur champion and has multiple wins as a professional golfer. Steven Jones was the 2004 Victorian Amateur champion. Bill Higgins was the 1937 Victorian Amateur champion. N. Foote was the South Australian Amateur champion in 1954 and 1963.
