Presidents Update

13 April 2023

I know that we are all very keen to return to our spiritual golfing home at Riverside GC.

Tim Petersen, Ash Whitehouse and a number of volunteers have been working hard to put the golf links back into playable condition.

As most would know, we were required to remove all of the existing greens. New fill was brought in and the greens were re-shaped. Seeding of the greens was completed on Wednesday 8 March 2023.

Our experience is that (at this time of year) we can expect to be back playing on re-seeded greens in approximately 12 weeks. This timeframe is dependent upon the weather – and particularly the combined maximum and minimum temperatures.

All going well, we are still planning a return to golf on the weekend of 27-28 May 2023. A further update will be provided in early May 2023. As you will all appreciate, the Riverside Golf Club has had very limited income, since the flood hit us in late November. We have been surviving drastically limiting our expenditure and using our financial reserves. The continued support of our member and sponsors is vital to our survival and success moving forward. We look forward to your continued support and hope that you will join us at the events that we have planned (see below) and for any future events as we bring the club back online.

I hope to see as many of you as possible at our next Nearest the Pin / Hole in One day on Sunday 30 April 2023 – referred to below. Heather Klemm and I won the last NTP competitions, so a bit of competition this time would be good … ha ha.

Before & After

12 April 2023

The recovery is happening. Below are two photos of the ninth fairway taken from roughly the same place. As you can see things have improved considerably. The good news is we are making progress towards the course reopening.

Recovery Plan

23 March 2023

Our Recovery Action Plan is now well-advanced. We are pleased to report that the Greens have all been prepared and re-seeding was completed on 8 March 2023. Recent experience should have us back playing on 18 new Greens in approximately 13 weeks – so end of May or the first week of June 2023. I am sure that all members, visiters etc, are champing at the bit to get back on OUR Golf course!
